Crime 101 – Prime Video
Another in a long line of LA crime flicks, this just looked like a fun action thriller. I like Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, and Halle Berry, and the Director Bart Layton’s filmography includes the well-received 2018 movie American Animals. Since I missed it in theaters, I’m glad this has already hit streaming. This will make for a great lazy summer evening film.
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die – Theaters, Feb 13th, PVOD
From director Gore Verbinski – he of Mouse Hunt, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Rango fame – comes a time travel sci fi comedy. Long time readers will know of my particular interest in time travel plots, both the good and the bad, so I was excited to the initial teasers for this film. Sam Rockwell’s ‘man from the future’ jumped off the screen, and I never looked back. Remarkably well reviewed for a sci fi film (currently 81% on Rotten Tomatoes), I’m hopeful this lands on streaming soon.
Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie – Theaters, Feb 13th, PVOD
I’ll be honest, I had no idea what this was, and very little interest in seeing it. Then it was described on The Big Picture. Based on the successful web series turned Canadian television show, Nirvanna the Band the Show, the movie follows fictionalized versions of the film’s writers as they try to book a gig in Toronto. Included in the film is some kind of time travel plot line using scrapped footage from the webseries to portray the younger versions of themselves. Pretty ingenious when you have years of video of yourself to pull from. Also, double time travel movies? What did I do to deserve this!
The Bluff – Prime Video
Pirates! Action! Secret identities! This movie has it all!
I know almost nothing about this “swashbuckler action thriller”, but I like Karl Urban and Priyanka Chopra. What the hell, there wasn’t much else that came out this month. 🤷🏼♂️
