Folly of the Week – Allen Toussaint, ‘American Tunes’

Each Friday, Andrew and friends will tell you about something that caught their attention this week – a song, a book, a video game. If you have suggestions for Folly of the Week, send it to us at inpraiseoffolly@gmail.com.

I’ve long been a fan of Allen Toussaint, and was saddened when he passed away late last year. Getting one more album of his work almost seems too good to be true, though I’m sure over his very prolific career there is plenty of unreleased material that will continue to surface in years to come.

A posthumous album from the great behind-the-scenes man sets a retrospective, autumnal focus on songs which gave rise to Toussaint and his city — and thus to a bigger American music canon.
